2 sets of parking rules - one for the public & one for council workers
After seeing the waverly council rangers booking car after car parked on old south head road near the corner of beaumont street in the no stopping zone, and hearing them explain to motorist after motorist that a no stopping zone had to be enforced due to the danger posed by the cars in blocking the view of oncoming cars and pedestrians- imagine my suprise when for the second time last week I see the public place officers of Waverly Council pull into the no stopping zone, leave the vehicle and start doing there regular inspections/ hand cleaning of the surrounding footpaths.
They remained in the no stopping zone for over 10 minutes whilst the passenger sat in the car. I rang the parking rangers to see if they would get the car to move as it was creating a hazard to motorists and pedestrians alike and was met with this response: "I can be in the area in a few minutes, what type of car is it? I responded a Ute. He said: Oh that's the council, they are there working so dont worry.
I stated that there is a legal park three metres in front of them to be able to park in safely. He stated that they are just doing there job and that we dont book our own cars anyway". When I said that the council cant have two different sets of laws and that there cant be selective enforcement, he laughed and stated that they arent going to book a council car. Well Sally Betts- do this make sense? This is not an emergency vehicle, nor was it essential that they park in this exact spot which is obviously a danger.
Can we have consistency and fairness in the Waverly Area?

Council does not condone its staff parking council vehicles illegally and in an unsafe manner. Any council vehicle that is parked illegally can be infringed and the matter will be referred to the officer's manager to be dealt with through the appropriate disciplinary policy.
There are exceptions as to when Council vehicles can be parked against the signage. This may occur when staff are required to undertake work in the immediate vicinity and require access to tools or equipment in the vehicle, or for the safety of staff undertaking work, where the vehicle acts as a barricade between workers and oncoming traffic.
fair reply by council with a good answer
