Waverley Increases Cost of Residential Parking
After being up to the Waverley council recently, I was shocked that we will now have to pay to park outside our own house and the increase of the second parking permit is going from $52 to $100.
Residents didn't have a say in this discussion and will only find out when they read the management plan or go to renew there parking permit.
I am wanting to get a group of community representative together to met with council.
Can anyone please post details here if they have any suggestions that might help.

Organise a petition, also.
I'm a resident of Salisbury St and welcome permit parking. I have been fined $193, twice in two weeks. The residents of Salisbury have petitioned council to rezone it for limited parking of non-residents, but it has fallen on deaf ears. Meanwhile residents of Carrington and Campbell St and wherever park their cars outside our homes, sometimes for a period of 4 weeks at a time. It is impossible to find parking when I get back from work, around 8pm. What am I to do? A car doesn't evapourate into think air. Get off your arses council and do something, fining residents is not a solution.
I can believe council haven't addressed that issue. I hope my Gripe with council won't fall on deaf ears. Maybe a protest outside Waverely council in Bondi Junction is the way to go, media attention is always good. It is frustrating not to be able to get parking in your own street. The parking permits that council provide unfortunatley don't guarantee a parking space, but at least you would have to put up with the finds.
Good luck.
Would any of you like to be interviewed about the residential parking cost increase for UTS reportage?
Council has recently completed its review of the public parking system. As expected there has been much community discussion about the review particularly regarding the reinstatement of the fee for residential parking permits.
The aim of the parking review was to find a way for residents and visitors to share the very limited public parking that exists in Waverley. With vehicle registration increasing dramatically, now on average each household has more than one car, and with visitors also increasing dramatically, parking stress is a major issue that needs to be addressed.
At the 2008 NSW local government elections, I made a commitment to review our parking system to make it fairer and more sustainable. The review committee was made up of myself, Councillors from each party, our independent Councillor and technical experts. Our overall aim for the system is to protect our residents, encourage higher turnover for businesses and provide spaces for visitors.
With more parking stickers being issued than actual parking spaces in nine out of the 22 resident parking zones, one of the areas being over subscribed by more than a third, and five other areas almost on par - many residents are demanding we regulate these areas to ensure visitors do not park out these streets all day.
The resident parking system helps increase visitor turnover and makes these spaces available for residents. For the past two years the first permit was free, but there is now a small fee of $25 a year for the first vehicle where there is no existing garage. I know it is difficult to pay for something when it has been free but the $25 does not cover the actually cost of the system.
The decision to charge for the resident parking sticker was publicised as part of our Management Plan which was widely circulated to the community. As part of this process, we had a number of discussions with a range of residents who generally accepted that this fee was a small price to pay if it helped them park closer to their home.
We will continue to further consult with our community on this issue in the future.

I am sorry Sally but your reasoning is not that reasonable. The system is flawed as it penalises households who have a garage/car port. The system should be changed to the first permit per household and charge only $25 for such a permit.
At the moment the first permit for a garaged residence is $100 which is ridiculous.
Currently, the 2nd car (being the 1st car that would be parked on the street) and 1st car from a non-garaged residence incurs a different fee.
The council is essentially discriminating against garaged residences by charging $100 for a car to park on the street, whilst only charging $25 for a car to park on the street for non-garaged residents.
It is immaterial that garaged residences have a an existing car parked in the garage as it (a) doesn't need a permit and (b) is not taking up street parking.
So lets call a spade a spade and state that this parking policy is discriminatory and is in place for government revenue and not for the benefit of residents wanting to park outside their home.
Change the policy.
Not only discriminating garaged residences, but non-strata flats too. We are effectively being kicked out of the place we have called home for 20 odd years because the council don't get enough in rates! If it's a question of money I'm happy to negotiate. Now I'm only allowed to park outside for 2 hours like a regular blow-in.. I'm a resident, I don't understand. I called up and Amanda from the parking services basically told me to sell my car or move!
Would be very interested in appealing this...
