Poisoned Trees
I notice the problem of trees suddenly dying. Its everywhere.
The Council reply I added the Derrrrrr so you can understand my thoughts on councillors.
"Derrrrrrrrrrrr, if we cant derrrrrrrrrrr prove it, we can derrr do anything."
So thats it council. Why not as part of the DA protect the trees. Any tree within a radius 50 metres becomes the liability of The developer for three years.
Heavy fines and or loss of may be a tree bond, if trees suddenly and mysteriously die.
maybe it should be a state law
You would think that the Mayor, Andrew Teatree would do something.
I know he likes going on TV saying it wasnt our fault.

Council has enough to do.Its over worked and is struggling to supply even the basics. They have also applied for a rates increase to help, so they can hire more staff.
Yeah Right!!!! Council sit pretty safe. knowing its doubtful they will be sacked.
I'm not sure which trees you are referring to dying but I would be curious to know which locations? When you see a tree that has been poisoned, please report it to Council.
DA's do require the protection of trees if it is specified as a condition. I can remember one particular property I examined where I required an extra two trees remain in the back lawn to provide the neighbour with some extra privacy, not from the new house being built, but from the huge block of units behind him it would have exposed.
Failure to comply with these conditions results in potentially very hefty fines (depending on a few things such as the size of the tree) and I am reasonably sure, but need to verify, that they are required to pay a bond to guarantee their safety too.
Regards,
Sean.
You dont have to look far,.So can you tell this site what happened to developers, what was done.
Victoria Rd cross st New South Head.Tree down, replaced.
New South Head Road Kin Coppal Trees poisoned.
Babworth House on the Harbour Many trees dead and gone.
All were Developments.
Sean,
It should not be up to the Public .
Council should photograph and take notes on the site.If trees are dying because of the "Bad tree fairy" then action should be taken.
Paperwork and Spin do little to fix things.
From all the gripes on this site, can we have a figure about how many have been fixed. This will show what council are about.Rate payers place a gripe, feedback. What do council do?
Maybe a graph on each council section.THE GRIPE GRAPH to see how efficient councils are.
Again, these are rate payers, commenting, so council should, SHOULD respond and if its a reasonable request fix the issue.
I ask the Mayor of Woollahra to comment on this.
Councillors I ask you, to draw his attention to this message.
Dear Anon.
Mate do you really expect anything from the Mayor.
Hes a baby Kisser if there is nothing in it, "glory," he wont budge an inch to do anything.
hello
Can I say that the issue of tree poisoning is one that has been occurring for a long time. It is also an issue which will not go away unless Council do something about its policy regarding Tree Preservation Orders. Council already has been doing work on a public tree policy but the issue of tree poisoning is usually related to private trees.
The truth of the matter is that people can not get approvals to trim trees quickly enough on their own property and are restricted by the amount of red tape in place. If you have ever seen the TPO form it is 9 pages long and involves a charge to get an assessment.
I am in the process ( around exam preparation) of coming up with a motion to transform the policy to make it more simple to be able to prune private trees. Essentially poisoning occurs to create views but the intent of most people is to not destroy the tree but to reduce its canopy. if we can make this simpler then far less tree poisoning will occur. the same can be said of public trees. If have a more flexible system to retain trees but at the same time protect views by a combination of pruning as well as appropriate species many of the poisoning problems will go away.
When I have formulated my motion regarding TPOs I will post it on here first and also let you know once the next report comes back about our public tree policy.
Cheers
Cr Anthony Boskovitz
Liberal Councillor
So how do we lose all these trees.
I think we lost about 11 trees on the Babworth house site. amazing.
Can the two councillors explain the reasons for the lost trees.
Anthony do you expect us to believe the intent is to reduce its canopy.Thats the trouble with council.
Who poisons to reduce canopy, professionals? If they use professional and they die, then they are responsible and should be the brunt of the law.
What a joke!! Imagine if council ran the courts.Hahahahaha
Murder would be a pst time.
Hahahahah Woollahra Council.where's the baggy pants and the red noses.
Stick to writing letters.
I think you should cut the councilors on here some slack, they don't have to be here helping to improve the community by reading gripes and feedback.
When it comes down to it I think if people had to choose between a view and killing a tree, most people would unfortunately kill the tree. I agree they wouldn't employ the extra time and perhaps money to find out how to just reduce it's canopy.

I won't comment on Babworth House because I have no knowledge of it... When did it occur and was it reported to Council?
As to the rest of your comments I would be very interested to hear your solutions to the problem we have. Any input is good input and information that we can use going forward. i don't profess to be an expert when it comes to trees so guidance is very much appreciated.
Unfortunately your comments above add absolutely nothing to the debate and thus are totally useless.
Anon #2 thankyou for your support. Just this morning I had a chat to Sean and we are going to sit down and work out a way forward. As i said we have a policy coming but it is taking way to long and both of us intend on working towards getting it done more quickly so we can act on this vandalism and try to prevent it as best as we can.
Also as i said previously any feasible solutions would be very much appreciated.
Cheers to everyone for contributing to this forum and trying to make beautiful Woollahra even more beautiful.
Anthony
I think the person who started the thread had the solution.
If you read it.
To your questions.
Many months ago and Yes.
Litter the streets Poison the trees who cares!!!!!
Ronaldo is gone 80 million pounds.
Guys there's more to life than litter , Dog Crap, and Trees.
Well, the council is exercising its power on the paper only.
DA is usually linked to prescribed tree species and they go to a great length to define what is permissible and what not.
There are many properties where trees planted according to the condition disappear in the black hole. And we are not talking about trees costing few dollars.
If anybody at the council really would care about the trees they would make occupancy approval conditional with the inspection carried out say after 3-5 years.
The council runs for the cover any time the owner is overcome by vistas obscenitas - a perverse addiction to views.
They engage an arborist and this poor soul performs under permanent threat to be sued.
We are talking about moronic culture of tree haters - presided by a current lord mayor.
Well said.
There are simple solutions to this.
It needs the council to do something.Please.
can we get back to the general appearance of the commercial part of double bay. new south head rd is an absolute disgrace - and constantly referred to as the gateway to the area. it is unbelievably shabby. i believe the approvals were all in place for new light poles which was the reason for digging up the pavements in 2007, can any of the councillors who read this shed some light on this absurd delay? the sooner double bay is cleaned up in every respect, the better for everyone.
regarding cleanliness, after recently spending a few days in melbourne and suburbs, the place is spotless, the streets are landscaped and it looks amazing. take note woollahra council - it can be done.
Council are hiding?
Might be hiding, but the clean up has started.
Well done to Council and especially Anthony.
PS will have a look at the pavers or lack of.I have seen Sam the paving man around.
Pavers are easy because it a health and safety issue.
