North Bondi Street Delapidation

Many of the narrow streets off Murriverie road are sadly neglected. Streets include Knowles Avenue, Middleton Street, Gould Street and the perpendicular street off these streets O'Donnell Street. The roads clearly need to be asphalt with the current concrete streets heavily cracked. The kerbing is also damaged in many parts. In some parts kerbing is sticking out onto the road damaging cars when parking and providing an unsafe landing point for people to disembark their vehicles.

It seems like the more affluent streets of Dover Heights such as Portland street and Hunter street receive regular attention, but the narrow and less visited streets have not been touched in decades. The tree planting is appreciated and will be beneficial, but I think these streets need a lot more attention then a few trees. The residents understand council is working with scarce resources and there is a plan, but I don't think the above streets are even on the agenda. Council needs to review the engineer’s reports for these streets and put something in place to introduce improvements to compensate for the years of neglect.

To whom it may concern,

I have been living on Midelton Avenue for the past four years and I would like to add my voice to the lack of effort put into the roads in the area in which we live. Midleton Avenue is desperate for a re tarring as the state of the road is totally delapidated and in comparison to some other roads we travel on regularly it is clearly being neglected. Can some one please do something about this inaction? Also the trees that are on Midelton Avenue have never been trimmed down by Council. I have rung about five times to get these trimmed down and each time I am told yes, yes we will do it and nothing ever happens. What ends up happening is that I get so annoyed with the leaves falling onto my car I cut them down myself - not something that I want to continue doing. Any assistance is appreciated. Rgds Mark

Seems like Sally forgot to repsond to this complaint. The lobby is growing. We can't keep ignoring the side streets of North Bondi.

Need to join the Lobby Group

I totally agree with Roby and Mark. It feels like we are living in 'poorsville'. Land prices are so high in North Bondi for a tiny piece of land - the condition of the streets should match the prices of houses! We should be able to drive down our streets with pride - instead all I see are un-tarred roads which look shocking. Why are these streets being ignored? When you consider that streets in Dover Heights and Vaucluse are constantly being re-tarred why can't the streets between Blair St and Murriverie Rd also look that good? It's disgraceful and embarrassing. Please do something about this.

Waverley Council is an appalling excuse for a local government body. The money goes into keeping Bronte looking good because that's the area where ex-Mayor (Paul Paerce) lives and where his state government constituents live. His wife (Ingrid Strewe, former Mayor too) told me once that she doesn't care about Bondi.
The amount of resentment in the community about the shocking arrogance of this council is unbelievable. Practically anyone who has anything to do with Council comes away with the same opinion of a body that resents the meddling of residents. The weekly warblings of the Mayor in the Wentworth Courier are window dressing for incompetence, more so under Sally Betts who is as rabidly a pro development Mayor as the terrible Markhams, whose vile ambition, links with developers and lack of planning nous created most of the high-rise blights in the municipality.
Waneryey Council is just TERRIBLE!!! And the GM Tony Reed is lazy as well as arrogant. He belongs back in the western suburbs, and seems never to have heard of the idea of accountability.
Will someone please abolish this bunch of no-hopers.

This sounds identical to Canterbury City Council, it's Mayor (also an MP) and it's General Manager.

Residents need to standup to these arrogant and useless people who are paid to do a job but simply refuse to address the issues and mess they create.

The media portrays these people has hard working, caring people and even when they are made aware of the facts they ignore it.

One has to question why the Canterbury City Council papers and media (in print and online) refuse to show the residents of the area what their Council is currently being investigated for by the NSW Ombudsman. Especially when the investigation occurring:

- is into this Councils conduct that caused a now 82 yo widow pensioner to be dragged through the Supreme Court because of this Councils negligence and incompetence.

- is into this Councils conduct when her son commenced a series of complaints advising the General Manager and Councillors, the Mayor, and local MP of the series of bungling incompetent Council actions and "inactions" that led to the Supreme Court action. When instead of apologising or addressing the issues, the Council chose not only to simply deny the accusation but it chose to intimidate and threaten her, and maybe worst of all, defame her with ill advised statements, stating words to the effect of "she has herself to blame".

The previous Premier was notified of what was going on, who in turn, addressed the matter to the then Minister of Local Government who naturally simply replied with some bureaucratic garbage and words to the effect of go and seek your justice down at the local legal aid office.

That's right, it's wasn't the responsibility of the General Manager, the Mayor or the Minister for Local Government to see this Council performs it's duties, it is the responsibility of an 82yo widow pensioner with the aid of the local legal aid office to see to that.

People need to know and people need to unite not only within the area but across areas. My guess is sites like this "in time" will aid in that.

It was not only this woman who had a right to know what was happening in her backyard, but also the neighbourhood that needed and needs to know, the Municipality needs to know and so each and every other neighbourhood, Municipality, City and State in this country.

This Council was described in Parliament ( http://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/prod/PARLMENT/committee.nsf/0/a5729b2bb95e4399ca2574e7007f29b4/$FILE/081014%20Local%20Government%20HIGHLIGHTED.pdf ) as the "Chamber of Secrets".

This is the same chamber that doesn't want this story released.

In relation to Midelton Avenue, most of North Bondi has concrete roads. Historically these roads were built in the 1930s as concrete was cheaper than petroleum based asphalt. Council doesn't resheet concrete roads as it doesn't improve its state. Howeverwe do repair potholes on concrete roads. If the road does have potholes please let us know by calling our Custmer Service Centre on 9369 8000 and they will arrange for it to be reviewed and repaired.

Hi Sally

I have been waiting for your response. It is good to know that you are keeping an eye on this forum. Sally I grew up on Military road near the golf course and understand what you are saying regarding concrete roads. The quality of this road is quite good. However, in regards to these side streets it is really embarrassing. The cracks on the roads and the potholes are beyond repair. I realise I am not an engineer, but blind Freddy can see that something is wrong. They really need to be reasphalted. Coucil has ashphalted roads that previously had concrete ie Fredrick street, Mitchell street. Someone at some point decided to make the decision to do this. Why can't we include these few little streets on the agenda. Noise and damage to vehicles would be greatly reduced. It does not have to be now, but over the next 2 years would be reasonable. Oh yes pelase don't forget to include Knowles Avenue.

It is good to see that the well maintained streets of Dover Heights and Rose Bay are being asphalted. Blakes Street Wallangra road are getting done tonight. Maybe if we all had 3+ Million dollar houses would our little poor streets get some fair treatment. No Socio economic discrimination in Waverley.

The North Bondi asphalt lobby continues to grow.

good to see Sally takes an interest.Get rid of the Lazy Woollahra councillors and Mayor,
Can we have that as a poll
