New amenities building at Dunningham Reserve

Looking at the proposal for New amenities building at Dunningham Reserve it seems to me that the new building is far beyond what a toilet block should remain.

The new proposal would make the natural scenery heavier and artificial, better build the amenities in a more environment friendly way.

May be finding a way to blend is even more so that it disappear rather than having this huge unnecessary block.

Everyone agrees that the existing toilets in Dunningham Reserve are in bad condition and new accessible toilets are essential. Council simplified a previous design with a smaller building and a lower roof, in keeping with the landscape, that doesn’t interrupt views. It‘s on the lower beach side of the path and set into the slope. No trees will be removed.

Randwick Council needs a permanent easily accessible jetski at Coogee Beach to improve public safety and Lifeguard response time. The current garage space under the Promenade is a staff amenities room but is needed for the jetski so the proposed toilet block includes a small staff room for Council's outdoor staff.

Coogee Beach and the parks are the workplace of staff who clean toilets, empty bins, pick up rubbish and maintain public facilities. The work is difficult and dirty. It is not only reasonable but an OH&S requirement that Council provide staff with a place to clean up and have their meal break.

After discussion with Coogee Precinct, Council put the smaller design on public exhibition. The proposal was advertised in the paper, on Council’s website and by email to Coogee Precinct. The proposed redesign will be the subject of a public report to Council. Council does not require a DA to demolish the old toilet block and rebuild a new one.
