Looking forward to response from the Hon. Mayor
To the Hon. Councillor Sally Betts,
Before I start I thought I would like offer you these reference numbers which are registered in your system as complaints so that rather then just complaining, you would see that I have taken the necessary steps to alleviate my concerns; 90685 (Ref#1) and 90688 (Ref#2), unfortunately have not been resolved. Further I have other complaints that I will address, however they are outside of any possible reference numbers.
Firstly with respect to ref# 90685 which relates to the 'Flamez Grill' situated at Shop 4, 33 Bronte Road, Bondi Junction - this business trades blatantly outside of it's licensed hours which encourages the drunks stammering out of the Grand Hotel to reside within the area - these hotel patrons create noise, urinate on property, physically damage property and cause dangerous conditions on the road.
I have made several complaints to Council - the response I've received is far from reasonable. Your staff have contacted these establishments during the day and asked if they trade past their hours and off course the response is No! - Further Council tells me that the owners have placed a sign that states they close at their licensed hours. Please tell me, what does a sign do? - when the owners of the business trade past the time and how exactly does a sign placed by the business themselves regulate their hours of trade - does the sign force the closure of the establishment? NO!!
I am sick of waking up in the early hours of the morning to wandering hotel patrons who are drunk, singing and dancing, urinating, fighting and damaging property, now on top of waking up at these hours every week - I have to take photos or video evidence and possible expose myself to physical harm in the event that my photo taking or video gathering exercise is not shared with the same excitement as me.
Secondly, with respect to Ref# 90688 which relates to Rocky's Pizza at 46 Bronte Road, Bondi Junction - another establishment blatantly trading past it's licensed hours and inviting the hotel patrons to gather outside and make noise whilst waiting and during eating for their pizza, afterwards they are left to their own care and continue to do as they please, as they have now left the care of the Hotel security.
Again this business was contacted by Waverly Council and was advised by the owner that they don't trade past the set hours. I have phone logs of times contacted these business and lengths of discussion which clearly show that they are open (numerous calls some nights to remind them to close).
Further, whilst this matter doesn't directly relate to Waverley Council it further highlights the problem in an area where within 600m there are two pubs/hotels that attract predominately English and Irish backpackers who don't live in the area, don't pay rates and care for nothing!!! The matter is that Waverley Police do not enforce Section 96 of The Law Enforcement & Protection Act (LEPRA) which deals with moving along drunks either in groups or individuals.
Next issue, The Grand Hotel at 89 Ebley Street has a licensed trading time of Midnight on Sundays; however under a supposed agreement with Waverley Police they are entitled to extend that till 12:20/30. Does Waverley Council know of this? Does it support this extension? I ask as the Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing which determines the times has not approved this extension nor were aware of it - and I understand are the only body legally allowed to extend trading hours of such establishments.
Next - your Hon. Deputy Mayor Kerryn Sloan has failed to return any phone calls over the last year, on the rare occasions that she is obtained I receive a myriad of promises with respect to the Grand Hotel and the issues surrounding them, however and not surprisingly it has been a very quiet year as I have not heard from her, her Hon. Kerryn Sloan has advised me that many people in her residence have complained to her about the Hotel and that things would be happening - NOTHING HAS HAPPENED, not even the decency to return phone calls or follow up on issues. Perhaps as Mayor you have a view on the level of customer service being offered at the top echelon which obviously flows down through the ranks.
As no body listens to me over the telephone I will address all my issues here!
Next - Waverley Council prior to your appointment as Mayor took The Grand Hotel to the Land & Environment Court under a previous Development Application, although Council was defeated there - a number of conditions were placed on the business - the 'Grand Hotel' which state that Council has a right to enforce these conditions if the business fails to address them, I can tell you they HAVE FAILED and now as you are aware there is another Development Application going before the Land & Environment Court.
As I hold a copy of the order placed by the Court, I would be happy to discuss with you personally, however I can't see this happening.
What I'm looking for is a tangible and reasonable response, not some local government PR spin.
Trust I will receive a solid response as Waverley Council is "proud of being an open and transparent Council and welcomes feedback on all its services"
Respectfully yours

Thank you for highlighting this issue with me. I have spoken to our rangers who are looking into these premises. I'm happy to meet with you to discuss this in more detail. If you would like to meet, please call my office to arrange a time.
Regards,
Cr Sally Betts
Mayor
Dear Anonymous
I am most happy to engage in communication with you at any time.
Given that you don’t wish to reveal your identity, it makes it extremely difficult to comment on your personal case.
As I live directly opposite the hotel in question I am most cognisant of all the problems. It is also preposterous to contextually infer that I don’t care. Moreover, I am directly affected by virtue of my address.
It is important note that I was the only councillor to prepare a comprehensive written statement for the Land & Environment Court against the operations of the hotel.
All in all I find your criticisms laughable, particularly when I have been more active on this issue than any other councillor. Not to mention that you are not prepared to reveal your identity.
If you would like to discuss this further give me a call on 0410-331-696.
Cr Kerryn Sloan
'Respectfull Yours' ... well done for going into this so deeply. But you should sign off correctly. I too am a Bondi Junction resident (CNR Waverley and Hollywood) and am very concerned re the same issues. Isn't it plainly obvious that for social harmony the pubs should shut at midnight max. The hotel lobby has the game tied up. Bondi Junctiojn is essentially a residential area and should be respected as such. Having drunken idiots shouting nonesense at 1, 2, 3, 4am on weekends is ridiculous. And while I'm at it how about dealing with the Harleys in the area. What is it with loud motorbikes in residential areas. Imagine if every vehicle had noise-enhancing exhaust systems. Harley motors are small by comparison! Its absurd. Confiscate the things. One rider met his maker the other day. Had an argument with a kangaroo and then a truck. Am sorry for the rider but extremely happy re one less Harley rider in BJ !
