IRRESPONSIBLE, DANGEROUS AND ILLEGAL
I have been reporting vehicles being driven and parked on the footpaths in Dunoon to Lismore City Council for many years. Our wise council staff seem to think that's ok, despite the footpath being used by school kids every day. A business is using the footpath as part of it's operating premises illegally.
Hopefully no kids will be hit by a car and injured or worse. I have suggested to council that steel posts be concreted in to prevent vehicles mounting the footpath but their response is that's it's fine for the vehicles to be there.
I don't expect a reply to this post. It takes council staff months to reply to any correspondence and that's only after many follow up phone calls and letters. Can't speak with the general manager either. Heard of duty of care.

The business is illegally encroaching onto the footpath, it can attract a fine of $425 in some councils, so make a fuss that while council is busy writing parking tickets (if it is ) it is ignoring almost four times the revenue per infringement and the safety of school children, when it ignores illegal and non complying use. With registered motor vehicles it is also something which can be brought to the attention of local police, they do have and may exercise a perogrative to do nothing but again point out to the police you are concerned about the state mandated requirement that council have adequate insurance in place and they dont seem to care. Point out to your council risk assessment officer or general manager. If the council continues to ignore your legitimate complaints about non compliance, and registered vehicles photographed parking on the footpath. And the additional worry about a lack of insurance which accompanies that activity. Tell them you will contact the Statewide Mutual Insurance scheme or councils insures if not the mutual scheme and supply them with photos and copies of your written complaints. Under the local government act All councils must make arrangements for adequate insurance and simply paying a premium then ignoring non compliance is not adequate.
