Dogs Off Leash
There are laws made re. cigarette butts and off leash dogs, however I have yet to see anyone stopped for either offence.
Camperdown Park in Newtown has dogs running around, one attacked me, owners dont worry about times allotted and get cranky when told.
I did see a ranger talk to 6 people but never fined them, why? that would have made the council richer by $120 and made owners sit up and take notice.
The streets and footpaths of Sydney are like a giant ash tray since smoking indoors was banned. Why arent shops, cafe, businesses fined for not cleaning their areas?
Walking along the footpath on King st Newtown is like a battle field when competing with outdoor seating, prams, cyclists, dogs plus pedestrians squeezed together.
Units keep going up in the inner suburbs but who works out where the cars are going to be able to drive and park? a resident sticker is of no use if theres no place to park.

re. off leash dogs, I have seen rangers stopping people (and dogs) for this "offence" down at the end of Glebe Point Rd (Bicentennial Park?).
They have sections of that park for on and off the lead and every person and their dog who is new to the area make some sort of mistake because the rules make no sense.
These rules are clearly spelt out on signs that are in the area but that does not make these rules logical or obvious.
To be fair, there are a couple of signs in Camperdown before the new signs were put up that mentioned dogs on leashes under a picture of a horse.
Camperdown Park in Newtown is owned and managed by Marrickville Council and is patrolled by their Rangers.
City of Sydney Rangers spend hundreds of hours every month patrolling all City of Sydney parks, particularly the larger parks and the dog off-leash parks. Dog walkers are regularly spoken to and cautioned about picking up after their dog, keeping their dog under effective control and making sure the dog doesn't go near playgrounds, sports ovals or food preparation areas. Fines are also issued when necessary.
The City Rangers regularly conduct patrols targeting cigarette butt litterers and in the past year have issued more than 1400 fines for this offence. The City's most recent campaign involved enforcement and education, including handing out more than 2,000 free personal ashtrays in the CBD, Kings Cross and Newtown areas. Uniformed and plain clothed City Rangers then revisited these areas and issued penalty notices to those who continued to discard their cigarette butts in a public place.
Residents in new developments are not eligible for residential parking permits. This is a condition of development consent on all new development to minimise the impact on existing onstreet parking availability. Residents in new developments are required to either purchase a car space with their unit or take advantage of other sustainable transport modes like cycling, walking, car share and public transport.
About a third of all residents in the City of Sydney choose not to own a car and there are about 3,000 active members of car share groups which the city supports by providing 90 dedicated car parking spaces.

I wish the signs are made bigger, so that they are more visible. Place more signs too everywhere, so that dog-owners don't miss them. Lastly, write on the signs that FINES will be given if not obeyed.
Since dog owners pay the same rates as people who don't have them, could the council pls keep O'Dea reserve dog area at the same standard as the rest of the park? My dog nearly broke her leg from holes and ruts in the area.
It also isn't patrolled for 'hit'n'run' dog owners who treat it as a walk in toilet and don't clean up- although why would they when the bags are missing most of the time?
As a dog owner myself even I get annoyed with other dog owners who don't do the right thing and pick up their dogs poo. Most of the time it happens when they let their dogs walk freely along behind them off leash and dont keep an eye out for mess they're making.
People, just keep in mind that some of us always do the right thing and its usually a few individuals that spoil it for the rest of us.
Don't generalise.
