Dangerous Denison Street speed diversion

The coucil recently re-instated a damaged speed obsticle going south in Denison Street near Phil O'Sullivan's garage. Living close to this spot I cannot count the number of times a day people drive through & hit their tyres or worse on this odd shaped road block.

The other ones in the street do not cause the same problem at all. I personally have damaged my front tyre on 2 seperate occasions despite knowing its there and slowing down to negotiate it.

The incidents that have arisen from this include numerous flat tyres every week, damaged rims, rendering cars un-drivable and forcing cars onto the opposite side of the road, into on-coming traffic!

I feel that the dangers far outway the ability to slow cars. Particularly when the cars are forced onto the other side of the road into oncoming traffic. Its just an accident waiting to happen!

Why couldn't the council just put in a regular speed hump??

More speed humps, please, no more, as a builder, just how many times has my vehicle and building materials been damaged because of the speed humps, these are so dangerous and all they are is upside down pot holes, same thing, there is no need for them, the bright spark that came up with the idea, and then got the tender from Waverley Council to install them all over the area, and got a huge cheque for installing them, if it wasn't for the complaints from the residents to stop we would have speed humps in every street, people have to use the streets we have,, what is the alternative if no new roads are available, we have to use the roads we have and the speed people drive now is about 40 km all the time so why new speed humps and calming devices,, get over it Waverley Council stop damaging our vehicles, use the money to clean the streets and prune the trees, and think about furniture removal vans, i feel so sorry for those people but they must work and drive in our streets, what else can we do?

Approximately 20 years ago Council installed two speed humps in Denison Street after much public discussion. One is on the Queens Park Road side and one is near Birrell Street. In particular residents asked Council not to install a speed hump in the middle of the block. Subsequently, after further consultation Council installed the chicane (which is the existing traffic slowing device).

I agree with the first comment, our house has got cracks in it due to people hitting the chicane since re-done early this year. We have asked the council to come and see the problem since re-done.

The problem being they have NOT made the new cement surround round edged, it is a 90 degree gutter hence cars can not go over it without damage, the old one and the one closer to Birrel st is rounded. Infact the new cement chicane gutter has already been dislodged cause of the design and impacts.

Ms Mayor - thanks for the history lesson however just because we did it that way doesn't make it right. We are not asking you to take the thing away but review the design and make it work
a) without damaging cars
b) forcing cars onto on-coming traffic

Why not make it a one-way traffic chicane (so only 1 way traffic on chicane at anytime, the first to chicane get right of way, they have these in Chatswood and northshore.

BTW can I lodge a rebate with council for fixing cracks to my walls (newly renovated house) caused by the impact and shutter force from the cars hitting it.
