City CBD - Proposed Car Free

Clover Moore's idea of a car free zone CBD is a good one ...hoorah! BUT first may I suggest we put Clover on a train to and from her office for a month from ...well, lets say, hmmm... my train from Parramatta ... she can join me on a graffiti ridden overpriced smelly degraded (sometimes defecated) cold (in winter) and sweaty hot in summer for the jerky slow often delayed trip into Town Hall ... and then look forward to the return journey that evening in much the same style... then lets see if she still wants to rid the CBD of cars ... in the mean time she can put her head back in the kennel ...

In an ideal world it would be a good idea having a car-free CBD, but it's not good enough just painting a few bike lanes, building a very limited tram line and calling it a day, because it doesn't resolve what you're talking about.

There needs to be a real and significant investment in our underground railyway system, featuring more trains, more lines and more stations for such a city to work like that. Given Sydney is the nations only global city, in my view all three tiers of government should be brought in to begin such investment. Unfortunately for Sydney Mr Rees was unable to obtain any meaningful funding from Mr Rudd regarding that.

Nonetheless, until that happens, slowing traffic, more road or lane closures or any other limitations to traffic flow by the COS should be stopped.
